Disney Felt Potato Heads

These DIY Disney Felt Potato Heads are a fun twist on the classic Potato Head toy.

We got to have a little 2-day vacation to Disneyland with my in-laws this week and I thought these would be fun to bring along for the kids on the drive down. It’s only an hour but that doesn’t mean they can’t have something to do in the meantime.

It should be a fun few days with my in-laws and I love Disneyland during the holidays. It always gets me excited and in the mood to have fun at the Happiest Place on Earth.

The non Disney specific pieces are from the original Mr and Mrs Felt Potato Head Set.

I used embroidery floss and very basic hand sewing to do the detailing but I think it made a big difference. It’s hard to see in the picture but it made the pieces really special.

I hope you enjoy making your own pieces. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will answer the best that I can. If you have any ideas for future pieces let me know. I have really enjoyed making these and love how many variations there can be.

  1. I make quiet book pages for some of the younger Grandchildren and there is one that is almost 4 and he is crazy about Disney, like his Mommy is, so I am going to make these Disney Characters for his 4 birthday quiet book page. I know he is going to love it. Thank you so much for making all these Disney Characters and he loves his potato head guy too, so this is perfect! I like them all and am having a really hard time picking one, so I will be making all of them for him.
I think I will be making some for my soon to be 2 year old Granddaughter too!
    Thanks so much, Joan

    1. Joan, thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I am so glad to hear that there are other people out there who are just as crazy for Disney as my family! I agree that it is so hard to pick just one favorite from all of them. I wish you good luck on making them and let me know if you run into any difficulties or have any questions!

  2. Omgsh! How cute! I just love the Peter Pan Potato Head! Hahaha adorable! Anywho, thanks for sharing with me and my lovely Pin Worthy Wednesday cohosts! I’m pinning your post!

  3. Wow, so creative! Living in California people assume I go to Disneyland all the time, when in fact I’ve been only twice (when I was 8, and then we took the kids before #3 came along). Thank you for sharing and linking up to Farmer’s Market Friday!

    1. That is really funny. I think we all do that in some way. “Oh you’re from (fill in the blank) so you’ve been to (insert icon here)”.

    1. Kristen if I ever decide to sell them I will make sure you are the first to know but these are an easy first project for learning to sew. It’s small and just basic hand sewing. I promos it is totally do able.

    1. Oh I’m sure they would love them. They are like portable dolls. My daughter loves to make goofy voices for them. You remind me that I have a pair of nephews who I should make a set for.

    1. Winnie that is a great idea. I bet they would cherish the potato heads just a little bit more because they made them with you. Have fun!

    1. Georgia, I am totally with you. This idea had been floating around for years, seriously. So I finally got around to it, and hunkered down to finish them so I didn’t have yet another unfinished project lying around.

  4. So cute! I might put a cardboard backing to them and hot glue Christmas yarn to make into Christmas tree ornaments. I’ll make a slightly smaller version. My Christmas tree theme is vintage toys. They are mostly homemade ornaments. This will go perfect. Thank you for the idea!

    1. That is an awesome tree theme! I saw some felt ornaments that paid homage to Charlie Brown that I loved that could be really cute too. I love your idea. When you make them send me a picture I would love to see how they turn out.
