We’ve been slowly getting our apartment organized and have been making more than a few trips to IKEA. Nobody knows how to make the most of small spaces like IKEA. We desperately needed an entertainment center of some kind but we were perhaps being a bit picky about what would work. We wanted something more off the floor and with more storage than a traditional entertainment center but not as high as the dressers I was originally looking at. Plus, we really needed something around a $100.
I happened upon a post featuring various IKEA hacks and spotted a dresser that I saw potential in. The biggest hurdle we had to deal with was a lip on either side of the dresser making it impossible to center the TV. The hubby wanted to just leave the lip and have the TV off center. Sorry hon, I could never hack it being off like that.
Here’s what we did to it-quick and simple. My hubby and his father routed the edges down and sanded them smooth. Then we stained them with a walnut finish. Easy as that. Their small profile off the wall fit our space perfectly and I’m in love not only with the color but with all the storage it gives.
My husband came up with a genius way to deal with the cords. The back piece to the dresser does not come down all the way so there was space for the cords to run down the back and into the drawer. We can keep everything not only neat and tidy but easily accessible too.
So we were able to take 2 $35 dressers and $10 worth of stain- and with one day’s worth of work created the perfect piece for us. Quick, cheap, and a pretty easy way to give our apartment some class back. Happy day.
