What to do with leftover rice krispie treats after cutting shapes out?

You will obviously have the extra bits left of the rice krispies after cutting the stars out. There are a couple things to do with those leftover bits.

  • Lightly press them together again to cut out more stars. These will be more compacted than the original set but still tasty!
  • Gently roll them into balls and place a lollipop stick in them. Dip them in the white chocolate and then decorate them with the sprinkles.
  • Enjoy eating them!

My kids are partial to that last option! I don’t blame them, it’s one of the best parts of being the chef!

Alternative method

  • Instead of cutting out stars and decorating them individually, you can press the mixture into a 9 by 13 casserole dish.
  • Heat white chocolate melts and drizzle over the entire pan.
  • Decorate with red white and blue sprinkles.
  • Cut into bars and enjoy!

This option is obviously much simpler and has less waste. If you are short on time, I would go with this option.

Tips and Tricks

Although you can use any size of marshmallows for rice krispie treats. I’ve found the mini marshmallows tend to melt faster than the original size. If you are pressed for time, opt for the small ones.

You just want the marshmallows to melt, you do not want to overcook the mixture. This can result in a really dry rice krispie treat and nobody wants that!
