Recycle items from your kitchen that will add some realism to kid's play- for FREE!

Growing up my mom would always give us her leftover spice containers and other random items that she found or we had that we could add to our play food set. We loved it and now I find myself doing the same for my kids. The best part is- it’s free! So the spice containers are ones that I’ve used up over time and then washed them out and given them to the kids. I would shy away from very strongly scented spices because they tend not to go away even after washing.

The chocolate milk container is from a Sonic kids meal. Again I just washed it really well. Made sure it dried well and then gave it to my kids. That one is their favorite. The Simply Orange container I got for free with a coupon one time and I used it to send drinks to work with my husband for a while. Now we have better containers for that so I gave this one to the kids.

The Celestial Seasonings tin is from a package of tea I bought over Christmas. They had a free tin in a few of the packages and I was already going to buy that flavor so I made sure to grab one with the free tin. I’m planning on making a few tea bags for the kids to use and sticking them in there.

It’s fun to see how they use the various items in their playing. The chocolate milk container often gets put in their “microwave” to make hot chocolate and the container with the label pulled off has been everything from sprinkles to sauce.

What other items do you recycle and add to your kids play food?
