In a microwave safe bowl, combine sugar and water. Microwave for 1:30- 2 minutes. Stir and check to see if sugar has all dissolved. It should look like water with no sugar visible. If sugar is still visible microwave for an additional 30 seconds. Repeat as necessary.
Combine sugar water and remaining ingredients in the slow cooker.
Cook on high for at least 2 hours. Remove berries and spices using a mesh sieve and serve warm.
