BBQ Bacon Cowboy Burger

This Cars Inspired Cowboy Burger has all the classic flavors of BBQ sauce, crispy bacon, and crunchy onions for a fun dinner and a movie night.

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 hamburger patties
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 8 onion rings
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese optional


  • Preheat oven to temperature recommended on your onion ring package.  Follow package directions for baking onion rings.
  • While, oven is preheating, preheat your grill to medium high heat. Once hot, add burgers and cook for 2-3 minutes per side.  If adding cheese, add it during the last minute of grilling on the second side.
  • Spread 2 Tbsp of BBQ sauce per bun half.  Top bottom bun with burger, bacon, onion rings, and then the bun top.


To cut down on cooking time, and avoid having the oven on during the summer, you can substitute crispy onions for the onion rings.
For a spicier burger substitute crispy jalapenos for the onion rings and pepper jack cheese for the cheddar cheese.
This burger is also incredibly good with toasted sourdough bread instead of the bun, or use a garlic jalapeno bun for some extra southwest flavor.
If you are unsure about if your burger is done or not, investing in a good thermometer will help cut out the guess work.  I love my Thermapen for quick and accurate readings.
Toast your buns (the burger buns silly!) to prevent getting a soggy bottom on your burger.  Lightly toast them on the grill or in a toaster oven for 2-3 minutes.
