Notes
To cut down on cooking time, and avoid having the oven on during the summer, you can substitute crispy onions for the onion rings. For a spicier burger substitute crispy jalapenos for the onion rings and pepper jack cheese for the cheddar cheese. This burger is also incredibly good with toasted sourdough bread instead of the bun, or use a garlic jalapeno bun for some extra southwest flavor. If you are unsure about if your burger is done or not, investing in a good thermometer will help cut out the guess work. I love my Thermapen for quick and accurate readings.Toast your buns (the burger buns silly!) to prevent getting a soggy bottom on your burger. Lightly toast them on the grill or in a toaster oven for 2-3 minutes.
