Update: These are now for sale in my Etsy store- Jonesin’ To Craft

A few years ago I bought these super cute zippers from Pick Your Plum. I had seen some cute pictures of how others had used them on Pinterest but then at a playdate my friend had a zipper star on her sandal! I loved it. I asked her if I could take pictures of her sandal and she laughingly agreed. Thanks Jill for not thinking I am a complete crazy (or maybe she did and was creeped out, hmmm?!). I had made a bunch up but never got around to taking pictures of the process. I finally sat down the other day to take those step by step photos. I really love the way they look and all those cute colors!

My daughter immediately snagged one and made it her pet sea star.

Supplies:

Zippers (I got mine from Pick Your Plum, or you can reuse old zippers)
Star template
Hot glue
Scissors
Ribbon
Alligator clips
Bar pins

Using your star template as a guide lay out your zipper and form the first corner. Hot glue that corner and hold it for a few seconds until the glue is cool enough to hold the corner together.

Do the same for the next corner using the template to keep the shape.

Once you have all five corners glued, glue some of the sections where the zipper crosses over itself in the center.

With the remaining zipper, begin a second smaller star using the same method as before. Glue the cross sections again to give added definition.

Using the last bit of zipper create a rosette by starting a circle along the outer edge of the inner part of the small star and spiraling in towards the center.

Glue a pin backing or an alligator clip to the back depending on how you want to use it. Dress up a bag or an outfit or add to a headband or as a little girl’s hair accessory. There are so many cute ways to use this!
