Easter Egg Cookie Pizza
This Easter Egg Cookie Pizza is an easy dessert that will be a huge hit and one that kids can make on their own and have a great time decorating their own giant Easter egg.
When my son saw this giant Easter egg cookie sitting on the table he freaked out. He called his sister over so she could check it out which sure made me feel good.
My son then declared it was the yummiest thing he had ever eaten. I may have wanted to smack him. But this is everything that makes kids happy so I’m not surprised he loved it.
Ingredients you need:
- Sugar cookie dough
- Vanilla frosting
- Easter colored M&Ms
You can use store bought cookie dough like I did or you can make your own sugar cookie dough. I went the store bought route because it was so easy and my kiddos don’t care at all.
The same goes for the frosting- make your own vanilla buttercream or buy a can.
If the M&Ms don’t float your boat you could also try making this out of sprinkles if you’re daring. I would recommend laying a clean sheet of paper down to use as a guide if you choose to go this route.
How To Make Easter Egg Cookie Pizza:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Roll out the cookie dough to create a rectangle about 11 by 13 inches in size. This doesn’t need to be exact.
- Cut out an Easter egg shape on a cutting board using a paring knife or a pastry roller. My finished egg was 10″ wide at its widest and 12″ tall.
- Transfer the cut out cookie to an un-greased cookie sheet. This will be easiest by placing the cookie sheet over the cookie and flipping over the cutting board so the cookie sheet is on the bottom.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until a light golden brown on the edges. Allow to cool completely.
- Frost the entire cookie as close to the edge as possible. Cover the cookie with M&Ms using whatever pattern you would like (see tips and tricks below).
Tips for cooking with kids
Kids can help roll out the cookie dough but I would recommend not having them help cut the cookie out. Since you need to cut the cookie out by hand it’s not an easy task for kids. An older child might be able to do it on their own with some guidance.
Because the decorating is so simple it is a great activity to have the kids do while Easter dinner is cooking. They will have a blast decorating the Easter egg and everyone can ooh and ahh over their amazing skills.
There was also enough leftover dough that I could make six small Easter egg cookies. If you wanted to decorate the giant egg you would have those six that the kids could decorate.
Tips and Tricks
If cutting out the egg shape by hand is scary create a paper template by taping two pieces of paper together and drawing your shape out. Then cut it out and lay it on top of the dough and trace around it with the knife.
You will most likely want 2 bags of M&Ms to decorate. I found that both my bags were sadly lacking in blue and green but were over abundant in pink and yellow. If you don’t care so much about varying the colors you can get away with using 1 bag.
It might help to separate the various colors first before beginning to decorate the Easter egg so you can easily evaluate what colors you have the most of.
Decorating with the M&Ms is not difficult although it may be slightly tedious. Straight designs are the easiest but I found the zig-zags were not that hard and they took up a significant amount of space which it was then easy to fill in after.
