Dress up a chocolate cake mix with a nutella glaze, cool whip, and chocolate chips for a cake that is wonderfully moist and flavorful.
It’s almost silly to even share this recipe with you. The Nutella Poke Cake has 5 ingredients but it was so amazing! We took it to a get together with another family and everyone had seconds- and a few had thirds! The flavor is amazing and the cake is so moist it is out of this world!
How to make poke cake?
First, you start with just a basic chocolate cake mix. Although I could make my own from scratch I choose to use a boxed cake mix because it works just fine for me.
After the cake comes out of the oven, use a fork or a cocktail stick and poke lots of holes all over the cake.
Then, combine sweetened condensed milk with Nutella for a yummy chocolatey glaze that gets poured over the top of the still warm cake so it soaks into the cake. I may have stolen some spoonfuls of just the glaze while making this cake.
Once you have added the glaze, cover the glaze with the cool whip or homemade whipped cream. Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips on top.
Now is the time to chill the cake. The chill time is important so the glaze gets soaked into the cake and all of the different layers set. If you don’t do this step your cake topping will slide right off and that’s really sad!
I actually decided to make it for my birthday again this year. I love how quick and easy it is to make and that it’s a nice cake to enjoy during the summer months. Having a summer birthday always makes it a catch-22 when making desserts so I like the refrigerator cakes because they are nice and chilled.
We happen to love cakes- I mean who doesn’t but making a cake causes all sorts of crazy celebrating in this house. It’s a little silly sometimes but with all the amazing cakes we’ve had through the years I guess it’s pretty justified.
