These spooky (and cute!) Basilisk and giant spider Harry Potter Themed Cupcakes will make any fan jump for joy (or fear) and make an easy treat for a Harry Potter party.
I’ve got another fun chocolate recipe for you today. Have you checked out the Strawberry Balsamic Chocolate Sauce or the #Choctoberfest giveaway yet? If not, don’t miss out!
These Harry Potter cupcakes are so easy to make that they are perfect to make with kids and make an awesome centerpiece for a Harry Potter party. The giant spider cupcakes would also be great for a Halloween bake sale!
I used my Harry Potter Lego figurines to decorate around the cakes which were absolutely perfect. They were just the right size compared to the giant Basilisk and the huge spiders.
Just a note, I would not store these cupcakes covered. The moisture from the buttercream frosting makes the Oreo and the candy corn soggy and covering them up only seemed to make it worse. Ideally these are best the day of.
To decorate the giant spiders:
-
For the spiders, frost 12 cupcakes with chocolate frosting. Stick one Oreo half upright into the back side of the cupcake.
-
On the other Oreo, use a piping bag and pipe a small line of chocolate frosting along the top. Add 4 small candy eyes. On the bottom of the Oreo, pipe two vertical lines and add 2 Brach’s Witches teeth candy corns.
-
Gently press the spider’s head Oreo on to the front half of the cupcake. Add 4 black licorice Twizzler legs to each side of the cupcake.
To decorate the Basilisk:
- Line up 12 cupcakes in a snake like shape. Use the green frosting to frost across the whole row of cupcakes.
- Use a toothpick to draw snake scales along the body of the snake. To the head of the snake, add 2 yellow M&Ms with the logo side down for eyes and 2 Brach’s Witches Teeth candy corns for teeth.
The Brach’s Witches Teeth candy corns I found at my local JoAnn’s store or you can also find them on Amazon.
Black licorice Twizzlers were surprisingly hard to come by. I found black and orange Twizzlers in the Halloween section at Target. You can also find them on Amazon.
